A Free Template to Build a Website Fast: Copy, Fill, Ship
The hardest part of any page is the blank start. This template removes it. Copy it, fill in the blanks with true statements, and paste the result into an AI site builder. A filled example sits beside each part so you can see what good looks like.
A short page needs six parts: headline, explanation, benefits, proof, about and one action. Fill them with true, specific words and you have a page worth publishing.
The template
Copy this into a document and fill in the square brackets.
Business name: [name] Headline: [Result] for [who], [one proof or promise that is true] Explanation: [Two sentences: what you do and how it works] Three benefits: [Benefit 1], [Benefit 2], [Benefit 3] Proof: [Real customer quote or description of real work, or leave blank] About: [Two or three sentences about who you are and why you do this] Action: [Button wording] leads to [email, phone, form or message link] Contact details: [email], [phone], [area or opening hours]
A filled example
Here is the same template filled for an invented business, a local dog walker. It is an illustration, not a real company.
| Part | Example |
|---|---|
| Headline | Reliable weekday dog walks for busy owners in Southfield |
| Explanation | I walk dogs near home on weekdays while you work. You get a message and a photo after every walk. |
| Benefits | Same walker every time. Small groups of up to three dogs. Updates after each walk. |
| Proof | A quote from a real client, added with their permission. Left blank until you have one. |
| About | I have walked dogs for neighbours for years and I am now doing it as a business. I love being outside. |
| Action | "Book a meet and greet" leads to a message link |
| Contact | hello@example.com, a phone number, Southfield and nearby streets |
Check the example for what it avoids: no invented awards, no unproven numbers, and a promise (updates after each walk) that the owner can keep.
Turn it into a prompt
Paste this, then your filled template under it.
Build a one page website from the details below. Use plain words and short sentences. Keep my wording where possible. Section order: headline, explanation, three benefits, proof, about, action button, contact details. Leave a clear placeholder for any part I left blank and do not invent testimonials, prices or numbers. Make the page work well on a phone, and size any photos sensibly.
Fix the action link
When you fill in the Action line, say what kind of link it is. MDN's documentation on the link element lists telephone links (tel:) and email links (mailto:) alongside ordinary web addresses. So "Call me" can start a call on a phone, and "Email me" can open a new message. Ask your builder to use them, then tap each one on your phone to confirm it works.
Fill it in properly
- HeadlineName the result and the person. Avoid "Welcome to" and avoid vague words like "solutions".
- ExplanationSay what happens, in order, as if telling a friend.
- BenefitsThings the customer gets, not things you do.
- ProofReal or empty. A gap is better than a lie.
- AboutShort and human. Why you, in your own words.
- ActionOne button wording, used twice on the page.
Check before you ship
Improve it after it is live
Once the page is live, ask three customers or friends what they wondered about. Add those questions as a short list on the page. Over a few weeks, replace any placeholder with a real quote or photo as you collect it.
Make it your own
The template is deliberately plain. After the first version works, change the order, add your own colours and photos, and use the framework in the Say, Show, Ask post to judge each section. For a view of the whole process, read the complete guide, or work through Lesson 4.1, A live website in one afternoon.
Three prompts to use with the template
A template helps you build a website fast because the thinking is already done. These three prompts take the filled version further. Paste your template under each one.
Prompt one: the first build
Build a one page website from the details below. Use my wording where possible, keep sentences short, and do not invent testimonials, prices or numbers. Leave a clear placeholder where something is missing.
Prompt two: the tidy up
Read the page as a new visitor who has never heard of me. List anything unclear, anything that sounds generic, and anything that makes a claim I have not given you. Do not change the page yet, only list.
This one is useful because it asks for a list before any edits, so you stay in charge of what changes.
Prompt three: the phone check
Review this page for use on a phone. Point out anything likely to be cut off, any text that is too small to read comfortably, and any button that would be hard to tap. Suggest simple changes.
Keep your template
After the page is live, store the filled template in a document. When your prices, area or photos change, update the document first and then the page. It stays your source of truth, and a new page for a new offer starts from a copy instead of from blank.
Questions people ask
Is this template free to use?
Yes, copy it for your own business as you like.
What if I have no proof yet?
Leave it blank or describe how you work. Ask your first customers for a sentence and add it.
Can I use it for a shop?
It suits services and simple offers. A shop with many products needs product pages and a basket, which this template does not cover.
