If I had only strategized about building TAWK, I would know that Whisper is a good model for offline speech recognition. That is obvious from reading the paper. No amount of user research beforehand would have surfaced this behavior as clearly as watching real agents use the real product.

We also learned that agents trusted the AI's answers more when they could see the source documents alongside the generated response. Transparency was not just a nice feature. By the time you decide, there is a new model that outperforms all the options you evaluated. Ship with the best available option now. You can swap the model later. The model is the most replaceable component of any AI product.

The alignment marathon. Getting every stakeholder bought in before writing a single line of code. In AI, it is faster to build a working prototype and show it to stakeholders than to describe what you intend to build. A live demo creates alignment faster than any number of meetings.

The perfect data fantasy. Waiting until your data is clean, labeled, and organized before starting an AI project. Your data will never be perfect. Build on what you have now. The act of building will expose exactly which data problems actually matter versus which ones are theoretical concerns.

The scale-first fallacy. Designing for enterprise scale before you have a single user. Build for one user first. Then ten. Then a hundred. The architecture you need at each stage is different, and you cannot predict the requirements of the later stages from the first stage. Ship small, learn fast, scale what works.

Build something this week. Not next quarter. This week. Pick the smallest, most annoying problem in your workflow. Sit down with an AI coding tool and build a solution.
